He is recipient of Certificate of Recognition from The Committee on Rules of I Mina Trentai Tres Na Liheslaturan Guahana presented on behalf of I Liheslaturan Guahana and the People of Guam signed and sealed in the City of Hagatna, Guam on the 29th day of September 2016 by Judith T. Won Pat, Ed.D. (Speaker and Sponsor), Rory J. Respicio (Chairperson, Committee on Rules) and Tina Rose Muna Barnes (Legislative Secretary for organizing the 1st Asia Pacific Library Congress Benchmarking Tour from September 29 to October 2, 2016 in the Beautiful Island of Guam, United States of America.
Through this benchmarking of libraries with Global Mentors for Change, he was commended for promoting community relationships that provides opportunities (1) to network with other communities; (2) to enhance the professional welfare, and, (3) support to develop library services.
Received PAARL's professional service award last January 26, 2013 during its 40th year anniversary. He is no stranger to awards. In fact, as librarian of St. Louis College, Valenzuela many years ago, he was recipient of an award for service and honor performance as President of the Association of Schools of Valenzuela for Culture and the Arts. This recognition was given to Erick by the local government unit of Valenzuela with Honorable Mayor Bobbit Carlos as the giver for spearheading activities that develop and promote the city museum. This goes to show that Eric's leadership skills stretch out from the library to the community it serves.
His experience working in varied libraries, from school libraries to academic libraries, fortified his people skills and professional competence for what seemed to be a thin academic preparation in library school.
He:
started out as a teacher librarian in the Manila public school system;
moved to St. Louis Valenzuela as college librarian and part-time instructor;
went farther north also as college librarian and part-time instructor for Trinity College of Quezon City-Sagada Special Academic Program; and,
served as librarian in St. Mary School, Sagada, Mountain Province; cataloger in the William Henry Scott Library, Sagada, Mountain Province;
with a very short but memorable stint at the Baguio Colleges Foundation which is now known as University of the Cordilleras-Baguio; back to the lowlands he worked in the Philippine Normal University, his Alma Mater; and,
then settled in De La Salle University-Taft for three years. There he finished his graduate studies, a MA in Education. After his stint as readers services librarian in DLSU Taft;
got a job at Adamson University doing library promotions, marketing content and services with a crowd-drawing FUSION national library conference in 2012;
Eric's professional homes were the University of Perpetual Help Library in 2012 as Graduate School Librarian;
Southville International School and Colleges-Las Pinas as Library Coordinator for its college including Southville International School Affiliated with Foreign Universities (SISFU), South SEED Las Pinas Doctors College, SEED night school libraries where he and his family live very near the said learning communities where he collaborated for income-generating patron-centric conferences like ASEAN Library Tourism & Hospitality, Effective Librarianship in the Workplace, Reading for the 21st Century Libraries, and,
library supervisor to Miriam College Higher Education Library.
A rolling stone gathers no moss, so they say, but Eric believes otherwise. Subscribing to the idea that change is constant, the library hopping is a non-issue. The real adventurer, he organizes trips to Corregidor, Sagada, Mt. Pinatubo crater, Babuyan Group of Islands, Romblon to mention a few, for a good cause: fun travel, scholarship and book donations. On top of this, he managed to participate and organize with great teams for INTERNATIONAL LIBRARY BENCHMARKING in Hong Kong, Singapore, Macau, Thailand, Taipei, Korea and Guam.
In between working, adventuring and running organizations, he writes to inspire, influences, promotes the profession and encourages librarians to be productive. He is one marketing marvel and this talent he uses to help uplift colleagues in the profession. 2018 is his 26th year in the profession and preparing to build Sagada Library Homestay for the Aged 10 to 12 years from now.
Eric begins another decade by keeping a dynamic and proactive outlook, taking into account prospects in the training scene and professional development of librarians and continuing to organizes trips for librarians and pilgrims. His unsolicited advice to the younger, hipper librarians:integrate and fit the library to the lifestyle of your library patrons! There's only one Eric Ramos, Filipino Librarian!
